Baby's here, getting a few sessions in

Well my temporary love affair with SNGs has come to a grinding halt now that I'm someone's Dad. My baby Aubrey was born almost 2 weeks ago and since coming home for Kristina it's been an ongoing cycle of feedings, diaper changes, and trying to get sleep in when we can.

With the way things are at the moment I can only really play cash games since I can quite whenever I need to. I love tournaments and I do really want to get refocused on grinding out $5 sngs month to month but until things settle down I just can't.

The last few sessions I was on a little hot streak, for me anyway. One afternoon I was only on for about 30 minutes but made almost 2 buyins just from getting good cards and action. The biggest hand I had was a 3 way pot where we all had flushes and I had the nuts. Everyone hit it on the turn so it turned out to be a decent pot.

I've only been playing the full ring 9 player tables, instead of my normal 6 max preference. The one thing I've noticed is SOOO many players are grinding anywhere from 4-20 tables at a time. I think this just says a lot about the state of poker and how good everyone's gotten, to where there are people all the time grinding out $10 buyin cash games. I mean, you gotta start somewhere but it just means that there are fewer and fewer weak easy money spots online. Now when I sit down I start searching everyone's names and noting how many tables they're at. It's good information to have because the one thing I can safely assume is that they're not fucking around when they put big $ in the pot. Why would they be? They're at so many tables they'd have to really be psychotic or have good reads to be able to splash with so much going on at once.

The defining hand

I took 2nd in a $6.50 knockout the other night which got me a nice little $80 profit. If I'd have made this call I'd have the uber mega chip stack and a better chance at first. As it ended up I was outchipped 4-1 by the time the winner of this hand took the rest of the guys out and lost a flip to get back in it.

I mean look at it and tell me how I could have called after they both shove? If just one is in there I'm all over it, but with the way I played it and the action that came up I don't see how I couldn't think I was beat here.

Of course, really the best action should have been folding preflop, yes I know that. :p

WOW - Awesome comment on AJ Benza's blog

So I was reading the link from the last entry about Benza being booted from High Stakes Poker, and then I found the comments below from an apparent anonymous person at GSN. So it sounds like he's being replaced by Vanessa Rousso who I really don't care for at all, but man this anonymous comment is AMAZING! Calling everyone out:

Anonymous said...

I have to post this anonymously because under the Nazi-like environment that David Goldhill has created at GSN, I know they will try and identify and fire me. I've even gone so far as to have someone else post this and send from their computer so there's nothing that can identify me. He's even rewritten in his own language and spelling because he's a better writer than me and this way they can't recognize any style that's mine.
As long as you're naming names, from GSN's side of things, credit for the success of High Stakes Poker goes to one person: Kevin Belinkoff. He was a long time GSN executive who was forced out about a year ago, just after the production of the last season of High Stakes Poker. Belinkoff campaigned vigoursly on the show's behalf. The stories of his own compulsive gambling are legendary. He would work every angle he could to keep the show going. Other the AJ, he was the only one who would talk the press to promote the show. He'd work with GSN's ad sales department to woo advertisers. The giant billboard in Las Vegas was his idea. And it was Belinkoff's idea to cast AJ Benza as the host with Gabe Kaplan, seeing the need for a non-poker expert to balance out the show. Beyond that, Belinkoff stayed out of the way and let the show become the best poker show on television.
But when Goldhill arrived a little more than two years ago, there was no room for intelligent or creative thought at GSN. Countless longtime executives were forced out, including Belinkoff's boss, a harmless British guy named Jamie Roberts. He was replaced by Kelly Goode, a black woman with a chip on her shoulder and no idea about game shows, poker shows, reality shows, or anything other than the horrible crap she developed before she got chased out at Lifetime. She went to Harvard --she'll mention that any chance she gets--but this is not an intelligent woman. She has no people skills, no creative instincts, and it's well known throughout GSN and outside that she has no idea what she's doing. Belinkoff quickly left after her hiring, but it's unkown whether that was his choice or he was fired.
Goode is disliked by virtually everyone at GSN. She micromanages her department and makes everyone miserable. There are countless stories of television executives like that, but they are successful and know what they're doing. Goode is incompetent. The only people that like her are David Goldhill and his Nazi right hand Steve Brunell. Every decision made at the network, large and small, goes through those two guys. Goode is merely their puppet and with no real authority or job to do, she spends her time making everyone else miserable.

Goode had it out for AJ from day one. No one is exactly sure why. It was likely that she wanted to make changes at her new job to assert her authority. That's not unusual, but it's better when they know what they're doing and have some track record of success. Belinkoff refused to replace AJ on the last season of the show. It doesn't require you knowing a whole lot about television to know that once the audience is comfortable with one host, you face a huge risk replacing him with another. It' good to take risks, but not when you have no clue what you're doing.
Without Belinkoff, production of the last season of High Stakes Poker was overseen by Mike Bevan. He's a nice guy and is best known for sitting in his office and playing solitaire on his computer for hours on end. The show wasn't as good, but it's the great poker play that people care about, and with the new players in the mix, the show still worked. But the ratings didn't show that. GSN stopped doing any kind of promotion or marketing for the show. After long time success on Monday nights, they moved it to Sunday and put on five consecutive hours of the show. Ratings suffered and it looked like Goldhill would get his wish and poker would disappear from GSN.
But everything Goldhill and Brunell have done at GSN has been an expensive failure. They spent a small fortune buying out contracts of top level executives. Expensive programming initiatives like the Game Show Awards and a live show on Saturday night have been colossol failures. Their own arrogance led to losing their most popular new show, Lingo, and most of the classic old shows. As sponsors have fled the network in the wake of their incompetence, the ad sales representives came to Goldhill and Brunell with a simple message: The only thing anyone cares about any more on this network is High Stakes Poker. When faced with the amount of money GSN would lose if they cancelled the show, they reluctantly ordered another season, more than one year after the previous one.
But now, the collection of non-poker playing incompetents took over. They cut the show's budget. So the new season will have fewer cameras and lower production value than ever before. David Schiff, who made the move to take over the show after firing Bevan, says a female host will bring in more female viewers. Read that again. The change to Vanessa Rousso isn't designed to bring in more men. Schiff thinks that she'll add more female viewers to the audience. At no point was a single person who knows anything about poker or the show consulted. Rousso was hired without an audition. Nugent was brought in as the head of talent, but he has little authority either. His greatest contribution is an upcoming reality show with Carny Wilson, and early reports on it is that her crass style won't sit well with viewers. So with one stupid decision after another, Goldhill and his crew of scared incompetents have ruined GSN and its best shows.
Someone at GSN will see this and there will be an investigation trying to figure out who I am. I hope that they don't identify the wrong person and fire them, but the environment at GSN is a horrible one and they do everything they can to silence any dissent. AJ, you know everything I say here is true. Thank you for having the balls to say something.

AJ Benza's replaced on High Stakes Poker

Yup he's getting replaced by a female cohost apparently. He's not too happy about it either. Read his blog about it here

Don't miss out on the filmstrip timeline showing Erica pre and post plastic surgery, then compared to Michael Jackson. This thread has a whole lot of win in it.

I feel so unsatisfied.

This is the 2nd night in the row I'm making a solid run in a decent sized tournament field. It's really sick how well it seems I'm running with the little I'm playing.

I just got 21/351 players in a $5.50 regular MTT. Last night I took 15/244 in a $2.25 deepstack turbo MTT. Then I checked last months excel sheet and I see 24/691 , 19/368 , 28/377. Then of course I took 2nd in a 90 man as well good for $50 profit.

With the exception of the 90 man all these close but no cigar runs are difficult to swallow. I really thought that coming up short in the last 4 runs tonight's $5.50 would have been better. The Dray Days Twitter page has all the updates as I played it through so I won't rehash hands but it's like I always say: if you're going to run good in a tournament, do it at the end.

I will always carry reservations when I run great early or midway through tourneys. Historically any time I've won or final tabled something big it's been tight play followed by a good run down the stretch. Maybe I shouldn't think negatively but it's based on history what can I say?

Besides fun poker tournaments online I've had a great weekend so far. I got to spend quite a bit of good quality time with Kristina as she's now in her 9th month of pregnancy officially. With my schedule it's kind of lame that even when I'm off I end up sleeping a large portion of her Wednesday's off. We're managing though and I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that some kind of schedule change is coming. I have a resume submitted for Billing at work which is M-F but it's been 2 weeks and I haven't even heard about an interview. :(

My old boss at KTSW sent me an email about a job opening at Clear Channel this week. It's an audio design engineer position producing commercials and promotions for the cluster of Austin stations they own. I went to Mix today and burned off everything that I produced when I was unemployed and able to pick up hours working in that department.

Came back home and earlier tonight made my first production demo with short clips of several different projects to try and show my "range". I probably listened to it 30 times after finishing it. Did my cover letter and resume and sent them in with the mp3, so now all I can do is hope. A steady full time radio gig and in production would be an AMAZING opportunity to learn and grow.

Peter Eastgate takes 2nd - EPT London Main Event

Aaron Gustavson Wins PokerStars EPT London Main Event - Poker News - CardPlayer.com

Besides Phil Ivey, I think one of the bigges stories in this year's main event are the repeat runs that both Dennis Phillips and Peter Eastgate. It's hard to imagine that anyone could ever really go back to back in the fields that have been generated since the Moneymaker boom.

Obviously Dan Harrington is the man with repeat final tables in 03 and 04, followed very closely by Greg Raymer. I think someone could definitely do what Harrington did again, but back to back wins? That's a whole notha story. :)

Last year's final table I said if I was putting money on anyone to win it was Ivan Demidov. The guy is fearless and after he mad the November 9 he went to London and took 3rd in the WSOP Europe main event.

This year TWO November Niner's made the WSOPE final table: Antoine Saout and James Akenhead. Even earlier than that Kevin Schaffel took 2nd to Prahlahd Friedman in the WPT Legend of Poker not long after the WSOP was done. So who do you put money on this year? Hell if I know! I mean, obviously we all are rooting for Ivey to take it down. But beyond that I think based on the results of these guys the last few months it seems to be anyone's game.

I will say that the chip leader Darvin Moon is an interesting dude. He's determined to stay a regular guy and if does take it down, it looks like he'll probably go Jerry Yang style and disappear for the rest of the year. Anyone can win this thing though, and I'm very excited to see what happens this year and in the rest of the coverage on ESPN leading up to the final table.

You know my little baby girl Aubrey is due to arrive into the world November 1st. How cool would it be if Ivey win's the main event and she's born on the same day! My wife just rolled her eyes when I brought the idea up, but I know my poker people can appreciate how awesome that would be!

Valuable lesson relearned last week

FIRST THINGS FIRST - I've changed the blog URL to http://draydays.blogspot.com

So if you have my blog linked, please update it so you don't have a dead link on
your page! :)

It's been a week now since my live outing to a $30 home game tournament out in Round Rock. Unfortunately I ended up being the bubble boy. After walking away I remembered a valuable concept that I picked up while playing tons of SNG's a few months ago. The idea is that on the bubble, the size of your stack compared to the other stacks at the table matters more than just how blinds you have left.

I'm not a poker expert and I could very well espouse wrong information on this blog under the premise I know what I'm talking about. I really don't know any poker experts who I can discuss concepts with or who can correct me if I'm wrong, though. All I can do through this outlet is just get my thoughts out there, whatever they may be at this moment in time.

When I was participating on the 2+2 SNG forum earlier this year I was really surprised at how many big hands the players there could agree were easy folds on the bubble. The primary factor in the decisions was the presence of someone who was very short stacked. For example you are 3rd in chips with 7 big blinds and 4 people left (3 getting paid). Another player has 2 big blinds. Even though 7 bbs definitely puts you in shove/fold mode, you can still tighten up in most situations. It's because your equity, based on your stack size in relation to everyone else's, is still much greater than the guy with 2bbs left.

My big mistake last Thursday was looking for spots to shove on the bubble because my stack was short enough, when there was an extremely short stack left. We were down to the last 7 with 6 getting paid. I came into the final table of 10 players 2nd in chips. We played for about an hour with 8 players left. Nobody had a big stack, the biggest was maybe 25 big blinds. It's also worth noting this game had a WSOP structure with antes included - something I've never seen in a home game EVER. So the final table was basically a lot of raise it/take it play without many flops being seen.

After we lost the 8th player this guy Brian who was one of the shorter stacks shoved with a couple of rags. The player on his left snap called with AT. Brian lost the hand but had the other guy covered and was crippled at that point. A few hands later I pick up 77 under the gun with about 10bbs left, shoved after a few seconds of thought and BOOM! ran into two Kings. I'm out on the bubble feeling REALLY stupid. :(

I classify myself as someone who always plays to win. I'm not out to just to squeek by in tournaments and make no money. However, the equity of cashing should have been a bigger factor in my decisions at this point in the tournament, BECAUSE Brian had an extremely short stack. Nobody really had chips and everyone's finishing position was going to have more to do with luck than skill. Playing for first and not being scared to put chips into the pot shouldn't have mattered, even if I consider it a valuable attribute for any poker player to have. The most important thing was to cash and lock up that equity and THEN let the cards fall where they may. Obviously now I regret the decision because I ran 77 into KK.

If I'm honest, though, it was luck that got me to that final table 2nd in chips. There were 3 game making hands where I got all of my chips in behind and won - QT>KJ , KT>TT , and against Herby I had Q8 beat his JJ by flopping two eights. The most difficult part about bubbling this tournament was just knowing that first would have been a very nice payday. There were over 30 people playing at $30 a head plus many $10 rebuys. It was actually a sick thing to watch person after person putting an extra $10 in the pool for a stack equal to 2 big blinds. I personally would never pay money for no chips because I think it's money wasted. I would never say that out loud to anyone because they're jacking up the prize pool with zero to no chance of getting back into the game. I had a big chip stack and a good chance of chasing, why would I want to discourage a growing prize pool?

I'd have only done 2 things differently - probably not shove the Q8 from utg...and the 77 at the final table obviously.

Herby was the only guy I knew there, all the regular Sunday crew couldn't make it. We tried to get a game together on Sunday at Herby's place but it didn't happen. :( It sucks that we don't get together and play as much as we used to, but it's a collective effort. I think we've all been either busy or broke most of this year, but I do miss not seeing a lot of the crew as often as I used to.

I hope this entry was easy to read and had a good flow to it. If you knew how long I spent proofreading and rewording it, you'd probably shake your head.

Sympathy River

Tonight was a prime example of why online cash games typically make me want to fall face first onto the corner of my coffee table. I get really bored playing them for extended periods of time. I've sat at the same $25 table tonight for almost 4 hours and I've yet to get over $30ish bucks at any point. To summarize it has been - stay even, lose a little, win a decent pot, lose a slightly bigger pot not long after the win, grind up a bit more, win a decent pot, lose a slightly bigger pot again right after the win.

Finally it's 5am, I've busted out of the deepstack $3 tournament I was playing alongside this cash table and I'm down to $10. Maybe I should have left a few times when I was at $15 and cut my losses. It never seemed at any point like I was on the fast track to double up. I can stand to lose $25 in one session bankroll wise but I certainly would be irritated with it, especially considering it would be about half of my recent 90 man 2nd place profits. But at this point I figure: "So what if I lose it? Who cares? I have no major complaints about they way I've played."

Then I play this hand with a guy who's sat with me for almost 150 hands:

I'm still playing at this table and have yet to get above $30. I'm still sitting with the initial buyin of $25. Maybe NOW I should quit break even...but dammit if I don't still want to either bust or double up because this is BORING!!!!

ANYWAY

I'm going to play a tournament tonight in Round Rock with a group I've never played with before. It's a group Herby usually plays with on Thursdays. $30 buyin with WSOP structure, of course what really matters is how fast the blinds go up. Yesterday was my birthday so I can justify spending a little $ but lately it's been tight. This may be one of my last live poker appearances for a while before Aubrey arrives and Kristina and I both become immersed in "baby land". :) I sure hope the game is pleasant and the people are a) nice b) not annoying and c) not jerks or poker ego trippers. Because if the last two are true I at least want to make some money off of them.

9.18.2009

Another deep run tonight.

Last night I played 2 tournies, a $3.30 deep stack and a $5.50 bounty 6 max. I went deep in both, moreso in the 6 max. 19/368 players and claimed 7 $1 bounties altogether. It was a pretty crazy rollercoaster towards the end where I was putting some pretty bad beats on people. I really thought I'd end up final tabling just because of that, but alas feel short. $12 profit altogether. I had chips in the $3.30 for a while but didn't end up cashing.

My sleep schedule was all out of wack today because I was up all night, slept for 4 hours and then got up to go to my wife's doctor's appointment. We also went grocery shopping too, and rather than take a nap I wanted to stay up so I could watch the season premiere of Fringe - one of my FAVORITE shows on TV. The only thing I don't like about Fringe is that there's never any resolution! :) They just keep things hanging all the time. So we both crashed out after the show and I woke up at 2am and jumped into the same $3.30 deep stack tourney. Instead of the $5.50 I opted for another $3.30, a turbo deep stack bounty sng, for my 2nd table.

I got 2nd in that one and for the first time used the new "make a deal" feature that full tilt FINALLY implemented after years of there being no way to do that. It's really easy because they do all the math for you, the default I guess is chopping it up based on ICM (Independent Chip Modeling). I know I'm going to botch this explanation but that calculates your equity for the prize pool based on your chip count. I really don't understand this math side of poker very well, but to make things simpler - the deal basically got my an extra $9. The difference between 2nd and first place was $20 essentially and since we had nearly even chips, we halfed that $20. If he had me 3-1 in chips then I probably would only have gotten and extra 2 or 3 bucks. In which case making a deal probably wouldn't have really mattered. But overall it was a $50 profit and as Jules and Vincent would say in Pulp Fiction: "We Happy."

I cashed 28/377 in the $3.30 deep stack as well. It was sick at the end I ran into Aces TWICE with my big playable hands on the bubble. LOL so for a 3 hour game I made less than $2.

But hey, I'm pretty amazed that I've had 4 pretty deep tournament runs this month with the small sample size I've put in. Even though tournies don't pay much until the end, I still think they're more exciting than cash games. It just seems I get so bored in cash games for whatever reason. Tournaments always have the element of excitement and anticipation which I've always liked, even if you can make more money from cash games.

So anyways I'll probably be up for a few more hours, I go back to work tonight. :( I will leave with a movie recommendation, and that is Vicky Cristina Barcelona starring Scarlett Johanssen Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, who most people will recognize as the villain from No Country For Old Men. Cruz won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in it this past year. It's a Woody Allen movie, romantic comedy but not your typical Matthew Mcconaughey or Jennifer Aniston style blockbuster formula.

It's a story of 2 friends, Vicky and Cristina, who go to Barcelona for the summer and have 2 completely opposite views on love. Vicky's engaged to be married - values committment and stability. Cristina is passionate and free spirited - she knows what she doesn't want (typical accepted relationship standards), but she also doesn't know WHAT she wants. They meet a painter (Bardem) who's known for his publicized fiery split with his ex wife (Cruz) and he invites the girls to fly with him to a small Spanish town to go look at sculptures. It really just takes off from there - but I just think that the script is great and there are lot of great interactions between the characters and a LOT of really funny moments.

So yeah, I recommend it. LOL

Oh snap he's posting a lil something

It is my Friday "night" right now. I should be in bed so I don't wake up all late, but I'm not. I'm up, 2 cups of coffee in me and playing on Full Tilt. I've really been enjoying the WSOP coverage. I'm finally caught up with the Main Event episodes. :) I got to spend a little time watching some of it with my buds Bruce and Eric last week which was nice.

So anyways playing some cash this morning and just had this big hand I thought I'd share. The guy had some pretty bad stats on display and I'd seen him make some overbets at pots frequently. I thought about raising the flop because scare cards could hit the turn, but I couldn't call a 3bet so I opted to call and see the turn. When he bet the turn quickly I really didn't think he had a big pair, but I did think he could call me with a draw, and to do that on the turn he's probably pretty far behind. Turns out I was in even better shape. :)

Slow August

It's been a crazy month and there hasn't been much poker involved. Normally I would play online during my weekends late at night but so far I've ended up resetting my body clock every weekend this month.

I had to the first weekend because my uncle died and we traveled to Louisiana for the funeral. The transition back into the work week wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Next weekend I experimented with a 10:30 nap because I was tired, and yeah, woke up at 5am. This past weekend for me (Fridays are my Mondays how weak is that?) we were continuing to move in to the new apartment. But Wednesday morning after working all night, my mother in law came up with her truck, and I unexpectadly ended up moving a ton of stuff without ever getting to sleep. It was very exhausting.

So just to prove how much poker I've played this month, I've posted a shot of my current spreadsheet.

7.31.2009

Not much to report poker wise

Work has been pretty brutal the last 2 weeks. Working 9pm-8am for 3 days straight with the last 2 shifts ending a little earlier. Weekends are now Wednesday, Thursday. I'm still trying to get my bearings on a sleep schedule. In general I try to get to bed soon after it's over but sometimes I'll stay up until 11:30ish.

The weekends are weird too because Kristina's generally either exhausted from doing shipment or is getting up early the next day to go to shipment. So I'm spending the wee hours on my days off quietly on the computer. Like now.

That's about the only time I really have to play poker too it seems. I just feel like there's not enough time in the day lately especially with this schedule so I want to try and get enough couple time in when I'm not sleeping through the day.

I've actually been spending a LOT of time on the facebook game Farm Town. I'm completely hooked! (Growing grapes as we speak) I didn't think I'd ever start playing a Facebook game, but just like the site itself, once Kristina got on board so did I. It's really kind of sad that we talk about it so much.

We're moving in 2 weeks and we've already got a lot of things packed up. I'm getting rid of the garage sale "dresser" that's housed my turntable setup since I was in school. I don't know what I'll do with the stuff when I get to the new place but I figure it's time to upgrade, and so getting rid of the dresser will force me to when the time's right. Besides I don't spin as much as I used to and there may not be a good place for all that at the new apartment.

Baby Aubrey Belle is coming along. We're just beginning the 7th month! It took a while to feel her kicking but now I can feel her all the time. It's already so much fun. :) Haven't been updating the baby blog lately, things have just been busy and stressful. I think by this time next year we're going to be in dire need of a vacation.

Hey man nice shot

Finally a shot taken has been rewarded! Just took 2nd in a $13 90 man good for $175 profit.

Roll's now up to 625. ^.^ (I learned that symbol from my work btw)

For those who don't have me on Facebook, I start my new 9pm-6am shift this Sunday night. :/ Tonight (Saturday) will likely be my last on-air shift for a while seeing as this new job has screwed me by scheduling me in the middle of my normal Saturday gig.

I don't particularly like all this change in my life, but perhaps looking back it will all have been good for me. God knows what he's doing up there. I don't have a clue, but He sure does. In the end everything will be OK.

Thank you Sir for the late night victory!

June SNG report

I LOVE having enough bankroll to play these now instead of the $2.25's. I never did May calculations because I only played about 10 games. This month's isn't a huge sample by any means, but it's kept me afloat in addition to rakeback and an affiliate deposit so that I can take more shots at bigger tournament money.

45 SNGS x 5.50 = $247.50

8 1sts x 22.50 = $180

7 2nds x 13.50 = $94.50

6 3rds x 9 = $54.00

$247.50 invested
$328.50 returned
Profit = $81 OR 14.72 buyins
ROI = 32.7%

45 games, 21 cashes, 46% cash rate

World Series of Poker Main Event starts today! w00t!

The Sunday home games is finally getting back together this weekend after a 2 month hiatus. We're playing at Herbie's, it should be gooooooodddd. :)

$50K HORSE Final Table set

From Cardplayer.com:

Final Table Tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Posted: Mon, Jun 29, 09, 11:06 PM

The final 19 players in the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E World Championship started today at 2 p.m. and after several grueling hours of playing five different variations of poker, they are down to the final eight.

Erik “Erik123” Sagstrom leads the pack with 3,675,000 in chips, but Vitaly Lunkin is in second chip position with 2,490,000 in chips. The final eight players will come back Tuesday at 2 p.m. to start the final table.

With already four double bracelet winners in this year’s world series, there are two players left in this field vying to join the club. If Vitaly Lunkin or Ville Wahlbeck is able win the bracelet, they would be the fifth player this year to win multiple bracelets.

----
Are you fucking shitting me? We could potentially have 5 double bracelet winners this year? We already have Lisandro with 3. The only ridiculously sick thing I can think of happening beyond what already has is one of these guys takes down the Main Event.

HOLY SHIT! Jeffrey Lisandro Wins his Third Bracelet of the Summer

WSOP -- Jeffrey Lisandro Wins his Third Bracelet of the Summer

Shared via AddThis

I've been a fan of Jeff Lisandro since he won a televised WSOP circuit event a few years back. He's just another one of those I think has uncanny instincts and the balls to follow through on them.

So for those who aren't keeping up, I posted a link earlier in the month about Brock Parker winning 2 bracelets. Since I've been playing cards the theme has always been one person goes double bracelet each year, but never more than one.

This year so far Parker's won two, Ivey's won two, Lisandro's won 3 and Vitaly Lunkin who won the 40K no limit opening tourney came damn close the other night with a 2nd in a PLO event.

Every year it seems a theme develops whether it's the year of the amateur, the year of the pro, the year all the pros who have NEVER won a bracelet get theirs. 2009 will without a doubt be the year of the repeat.

A tale of two Queens

Just did 4 table round on $5.50s with a 7th, two 2nds and a win. That coupled with the nice little cash session I had Saturday night has me up to $460, almost another $100 month at this point. :)

Thoughts on screen names

I'm laying in bed two tabling six handed cash games and there's a player named Daniel Atkinson and another named Travis Mawley at either table. I don't have a great reason for it but people who just use their real names as their screen name on poker sites bug the fuck out of me. I don't know maybe because it just screams to me that they don't have any creative side to them whatsoever.

I know that's assuming a lot from just an anonymous name on the internets, but fuck it odon't care LOL.

This is my blog dammit! Where the hell else am I gonna spur this random bullshit?

World Series of Poker -- Brock Parker Wins his Second Bracelet of the Week - CardPlayer.com

It seems like every year there's one guy who does it twice. Last year was John Phan, Jeff Madsen a few years ago.

World Series of Poker -- Brock Parker Wins his Second Bracelet of the Week - CardPlayer.com

BTW for those who aren't keeping up. Phil Ivey's the biggest name to win a bracelet thus far - #6 in a 2-7 lowball event. Jeff Lisandro nabbed one, along with Daniel Alaei. Negreaneu got really close in a limit holdem event but was runner up.

It's really too bad that they aren't showing any prelminary final tables this year on ESPN. Just the main event, the Ante Up For Africa charity tourney run by Don Cheadle and Annie Duke, and then a promotional tourney that had nothing but previous main event winners playing to win a fucking car.

The sad thing is the big 40K NL holdem tourney they opened up with this year had a siiiicckkkk final table with a lot of great online players like Dani Stern, Alec Torelli, Noah Boeken. Plus uhh Justin Bonomo, Greg Raymer, Ted Forrest. Just sick and noone is going to see it. :/

A clinic on endgame shoving strategy

This is going to be really long but it's only because of how amazingly long I was able to keep shoving over and over in the final two tables of this thing. Number one thing to pick up on is with the antes plus high blinds there's so much money in the pot it's worth it to just shove and pick it up. Just look how many times I get called, beat, and am back up to where I started in less than 5 hands. All of these are in consecutive order, I didn't edit anything out:

They sure do keep it cold in casinos

I'm cruising 2+2's News Views Gossip forum (NVG) and I come across a thread about Clonie Gowen's new boobs. Someone links this video in the thread and I'm LOL'ing at 2:15am over this:

The combo of the music and the guy checking them out it is priceless. Haaahahahaha

6.01.2009

I keep forgetting to mention this

The computer guy at my new workplace is named Mike Moneymaker.

He's a distant cousin to Chris Moneymaker.

After talking to him the day I found this out, he revealed that he's never met the guy. Small world. :)

ANOTHER 330 final table

Running hot running hot. Another 2nd just a minute ago here at the station. This comes after a 4th last night, and a 2nd last weekend. If I can attribute this to anything OTHER than getting cards and getting lucky, I'd say I've had a pretty fearlses attitude when it comes down to the final two or three tables. I don't feel like I'm doing anything terribly creative, just employing good endgame shoving strategy using M calculations.

Account's now up to $375 ish. Oh and yeah I beat the "record" for bounties that I mentioned last night. 7 knockouts this game. :)

I start working officially for Blizzard tomorrow night. It'll be interesting to see how life will be adjusted in working a night shift. I've been 8-5 M-F for so long. I'm still expecting to get a call back from Ultra about the receiving job soon though. I really hope they don't disappoint.

Sick Final Table at 40K WSOP Event #1

I haven't been keeping up with Cardplayer or the WSOP but just checked it out. Lots of good online guys, plus one of my all time favs Ted Forrest. So many times I watch him play on TV and he makes the right decision on every street. Super duper sick. This table it's anyone though.
