I haven't blogged in over a week because I've gone back into obsessed mode and have been playing WAY more than I should. My results are exemplary of this too.

I haven't analyzed anything since my 2.25 6 max final table, which I just realized I havne't posted here yet. So yeah last week I final tabled a $2 6 max tourney, 4/137 I think. I was happy to get that far. I thought I played well but I did kind of gamble at the end of the first hour to get a nice big stack.

I basically went on a two day bender and that was the end of it, making up for all the $ I had lost. Kristina stayed at her parents on Tuesday night so I played most of the night, then went to Fowlers and final tabled the 9pm session. Came back, played some more.

Then the next morning I called in sick to work and played all day at home too. I actually pissed Kristina off with my final table because when she came back I was in it and on my way. So I ended up playing for over 2 hours after she had gotten back from being gone for over 24 hours. Clearly I should have never entered it, which is of course why i did so well. Poker teaching me a lesson.

This weekend I've been playing a lot of $2.25 SNG's. I won't ever play the $1 again because of the rake. Someone on 2+2 pointed it out to me so thanks person! I've also been throwing in some full ring games which I think I basically broke even. There was a sick hand yesterday where I limped in late position with 22 and there were several players involved. Flop is 9 9 6 and everyone checks around. Turn is the 2 and a guy min bets, I raise and he min reraises me. At this point I'm thinking he definitely has a 9 and I'm going to double. WRONG. He's flopped a boat with 66 and he checks it to me on the river. I bet, he c/raises and I get stacked. Oh well just poker.

HU Round 4

4th Humpty (HUMTT) match

2+2 just partnered with PokerXFactor and so I tested it out by uploading my 4th round HH. Apparently I'm weak and not aggressive enough according to the first two replies. That's ok. I relish in the opportunity to continue improving my game. I've run really hot this last week, so so nice. :)

Bout to play a $3.30 double stack 6 max tourney. Gotta go!

It's funny I work in radio but I get GIDDY when I hear Joe Sebok and Gavin Smith answer my question on Poker Road. :) I asked about chip accumulation and they both kind of laughed and said, "yeah I'd love to learn how to get more chips too". Check it Out. It's the Phil Galfond episode.

Excited to go take another crack at Water Tank's 2nd session. I want to take down that $100 so bad. My motivation is purely egotistical too. :)

Heads Up Rounds 1 and 2 highlights

First off another 2+2 thread I'm in that I hadn't put here. Very good discussion going...

So like I said last night I had my deepest run ever in a heads up MTT. I won 4 matches in a row and lost the 5th when it got down to shove/fold stack sizes. I wish these weren't turbos so my EV would be greater, but the $2 HU SNG's I've been playing lately have been turbo so I'm getting practice.

I've just finished scouring over my first two matches here at work, noting how the villains were playing their button and big blind. By the way I'm starting to really enjoy analyzing my matches and look forward to it, so that's a good sign for my new analytical outlook! It's interesting how these first two seem very similar.

Xbell open folded his button a lot, and limped some. He called from the bb a little more than he folded and most of the time when he called he check/folded the flop. He did donk bet a couple of times after calling my raise. He never raised more than min on the button. Here are some higlights:

Match 2
Kim-Hall open folded a lot of buttons and limped some. His play from the bb was an even mix of folds and calls, however when he called he donked bet a lot of the time.

Dark Knight baby, WSOP

H E A T H = J O K E R

OMG a guy with the screen name OMGClayAiken just won a bracelet. It's just pros and internet guys racking em up this year. More on that in a bit.

I just bought my tickets to the 12noon showing of The Dark Knight opening day! I'm SUUUUPPPEERRR hyped. Literally I watch the trailers several times a week, the TV commercials, basically anything that's been released on it in the last 8 months I've seen it. :) So yeah if you're still in the dark about this movie, it will be THE SUMMER MOVIE.

People will cry if Heath doesn't get an Oscar nod, but I say we'll just have to wait and see. But everything I've seen and heard shows me this movie will be soooo badass.

OK BACK TO POKER

A lot of my friends are in Vegas for the WSOP this week. Apparently Pat has already gotten 4th @ Binion's his first night in. I haven't heard anything about Bruce and Nicole, but I hear Craig and Jerry are in the $1500 event that started today. I may call someone and get and update later tonight (Vegas is 2 hours earlier than TX time).

All I want is for one of them to get in the top 10 stacks for a day and get their picture up on Cardplayer or PokerNews.

I'm really excited and super jealous. But how cool would it be if one of them could final table and I could sweat them online! OMG I'd shit a brick! At any rate there are so many stacked final tables this year if they did do it, they'd probably have a name or two with them there. :)

Decent weekend

Had some decent results online over the weekend. Most notable I'd have to say bubbling the final table of a $2.25 6max MTT with 166 players and I finished 7th. I'm going to just include a lot of the notable hands that I played over the tourney. I'll probably take one or two of them to 2+2 and make threads out of them.

Aside from that I was happy to win 3 $5 heads up matches in a row on Saturday night. First a $5.25 single match and then a $5.40 shootout. That boosted me up to the mid $140 range. I've been raising button limpers more in my last few matches since scouring my hands last week and I think it's benefiting me. I'm really starting to pay more attention to how my opponents are playing their button which is letting me figure out my strategy and how I'm going to adjust. I still REALLY want to win a big heads up mtt soon though. I would shit a brick and be gloating for a while.

2+2 wannabee

I'm trying really hard this week to stick to my idea of playing less and analyzing more. Aside from this weekend I've only played one or two heads up shootouts and that was it. I've really been scouring those 4 matches too (won 1st, lost 2nd in each tourney).

Soooo in accordance with my analytical self I'm going to be putting myself on the 2+2 chopping block more often, probably weekly. The posters there are renowned for being brutally honest and vicious, but they're also very committed to being a good strategy source and encourage good discussion and content. While they may be rough around the edges, I can say wholeheartedly that I prefer their advice over Pocket Fives. It's hard to get really good discussions going on P5s, and that's never a problem with 2+2.

Poker Palooza was pretty fun. I didn't really get any hands to play with in the main event, AQo was the best hand I had I think. I think they ran it too fast with doubled blinds every 20 minutes. :/

I went deep in the battle of the sexes but didn't final table. I was making hands and kicking ass early and then the blind just caught up with me.

Ugh and battle of the bars I overplayed my AK to knock myself out. Blinds are 200/400 and I raise a limper in position to 1600 and get called in 2 spots. Flop comes Q high all hearts and I have the Ah. SB bets 500 into the large pot, 1 fold, and I pretty instaraise to 3500. This is where I went wrong, I should have just called the 500. So then the turn puts a J on the board and he bets 3000, I have about 7000 behind and call. River's a K so I have top pair and a whiffed nut flush draw and stack off to the guy's Q9h flopped flush. Doh!

While work isn't working

The main website my company works with is on the fritz this morning so I'm going to take this time to blog a little. I haven't played online since Monday night when Kristina was sick in bed.

Since then I've been thinking about changing my analyzation habits and keep more notes when I play, live or online. Also, playing less and really focusing on analyzing hands afterwards. I'm sure I've said this before and it will be hard to change my ways, but maybe just some slow progress would be good.

All I'm thinking is especially online, making a note of any hands I want to review later, and maybe just keep a brief "journal" of how the table is playing and what people are doing. And even though Saturday nights aren't exactly thrilling, I think I need to stop spending the whole shift playing Full Tilt. That would probably be a great time for analysis.

I don't know these are just ideas I have and there's no telling if I'll implement them. I wish I had some online pros to bounce hands off of, but I just don't keep up with people on 2+2 enough to reach out I guess.

Congrats to Erick Lindgren who finally won a bracelet! So far it's looking like the pros are going to dominate this year. I hope Ivey makes the main event final table this year, that would be so sick and would really help they hype surrounding the 4 month delay. :) Back to work!

$50 for a night

Decided to do something I haven't done in a while last night: deposit. I really just wanted to put in $22 to play the heads up MTT, but minimum is $50 so that's what I did.

Heads up tourney, I doubled barreled T7o with nothing early and lost half my stack. Just hung in until the blinds got high and then ran good in a couple of 60/40s to come back. 2nd match I decided to play my more aggressive self and started out good, was controlling the match. Lost KK all in preflop to AJ when he made a boat and then just never recovered.

I was thinking last night in my heads up matches that the type of players I often lose against thorough my own fault are passive ones, probably because it's an antithesis to my style. So I feel like changing up my style a bit and start checking behind flops, throwing in a few button limps instead of always raising 3x or 2.5x and cbetting flops.

More or less I'm trying to maybe mix up my play a little bit more without straying too far for my usual tactics.

Took the rest of my deposit to a $26 DS KO SNG 90 man and came up just short of final table. I mainly got lucky in spots early and failed to accumulate chips later. I did knock out 3 people to offset some of the cost. But that's besides the point because I blew that in the $11 45 man really late, and eventually fell asleep on the couch midway through. LOL
