Quick report from last night.

Made like $5 in the 6 max cash game.
Almost started accumulating down the stretch in an $11 MTT, but got 2 outered.
Lost a 10.5 Heads Up SNG.
Lost $10 in the .5/.10 nlhe cash game.
Made FT of another 5.5 45 man SNG, but bubbled in 8th.

FINALLY some good results:
Scored a $75 token last night in Tier two.

So now I have one $75 and two $26 tokens. No more guarantee tournaments until I cash in a Tier 3 at least. I have a feeling I'll be back up to $800 beore October's over.

That $11 MTT was so lame because of all the false hope I had before busting. I had a few hands early to get an ok lead (but I don't think I ever got above 3K). Then I just played my rocky short stack game taking what blinds I could. Finally got 99 in lp, it's folded around to me I shove and J8d calls me in the bb. I make a 4 card straight on the river to double to just over 5K (blinds at 150/300 a?)

Very next hand I'm dealt AKo. Two limp in ep for 300, I raise to 1900. Called by one in lp and the first limper. Flop is K T T with two hearts. Limp checks, I instashove for 3K and change. LP caller dumps AQ (and says so in the chat; I really hate it when people do this) and the original limper goes into the tank. Meanwhile everyone at the table is egging him on to call me and that I'm bluffing. Limper decides to call and tables 88, so I've got him crushed to the two remaining 8s, and he gets there on the river.

False hope sucks in tournament poker.

bday weekend report

Had a good Saturday night online. Took 2nd in a $5.50 45 man. Was a crazy final table, and I really thought I had this one locked up. But the guy who won was running super good. $50 profit though I'll take it. My roll is hovering now around $600 which is good. Not as good as it was last month but variance is a bitch. I know how resilient I can be anyway.

I also won another token Saturday as well, so now I have 3 tokens. I'm not going to keep blowing them in guarantee MTTs, but instead going to work the tier system again. I'm REALLY wanting that cardrunners membership and have honestly considered just throwing down on it even though it would drop me down to below 400. But I think I'll wait.

Played $40 cash game yesteray at Pats. I just always feel like playing really loose in our home games, which makes me money. But then I have trouble shifting gears if I'm up and a lot of times I end up blowing all my hard earned profit. I probably could've walked out with $40 profit easy, but ultimately ended up even. There was like an hour and half where I was just running over the table and that was fun. Somewhere along the line I just lost it. Too much other recreational activities I think is what led to my downfall...

The one thing that made me call this guy was the fact he overbet the turn after underbetting the flop.

I went on to take 2nd in the tournament for a nice little profit, putting me back over $700.

I just got my Full Tilt check today! Feels good even though most of it is spent already. I'm taking 500 to Lake Charles for two tournaments. Giving 100 to church, which is way overdue. And putting the rest towards car repair.

This weekend was pretty terrible for me online. The variance is starting to rear its ugly head after the last 2 months have been good to me. I managed to lose about 100 in cash money, plus about 5 tokens which probably makes me the sickest of all.

I don't necessarily think I'm playing too poorly, because of those losses I've had some good runs in tournaments like the 17.5K from an earlier post. However, I do think I've lost focus on my short term goal and a reasonable means to achieve it. I spent a lot of Sunday trying to satellite into big tourneys. I earned all those tokens with the intention of playing up the tier system again to meet my goal, but I got blinded by big money dreams again and have yet to enter a tier two game yet.

So I think I need to a) take a short break and b) refocus and concentrate on lower single table SNG's and building tokens in between good runs. I'm also going to try and experiment with some limit holdem to practice for my Lake Charles trip next month.

One last thing before I go. I've realized that heads up online poker puts my fiance on serious life tilt. Because I'm being forced to a decision every single hand, I can't play and give her attention at the same time. So as a result she gets visibly irritated that I'm not talking to her or at least engaged in what she's saying. I really shouldn't even be playing at all while she's present or conscious, honestly.

New short term goal

So apparently setting goals is doing well for me. Gives me motivation and focus I guess. My new goal isn't a huge won, and not something I haven't been able to do already.

I want to win another couple hundred dollars in either a $20+2 45 man SNG or, using the token system to take down a $75 SNG again.

It's because I want to join a poker training site before the end of the year so I can really start increasing my profits. Everyone who's joined these things say it's more than worth it, and I honestly can't see how it wouldn't be. I've watched a bunch of the short Cardrunner videos on Cardplayer and they are all great. I think that's the site I'm going to go with too, because it would seem to me they are a better value. For only $50 more than PokerXFactor, I get 6 months of membership instead of 3 months.

But hey you know if I get another big score I'll probably join that one too.

Hopefully I'll learn something and my ultimate goal would be to start slaughtering my Sunday home cash games. I want to put some MAJOR fear into them and cement myself as THE best player in our circle. :)

Big Money!

Another notch in my belt: my first 4 figure cash! I cashed for $1373 in the FTOPS Main Event on Sunday, and man was it sweet.

I played well early and got a lot of good hands. Was able to survive until the bubble burst, and then got extrememly lucky to make a decent run. Eventually went out on a stone cold bluff when I ran into aces.

But it was a great experience and I attribute much success to my fiance Kristina staying home with me and encouraging me to play smart, not stupid. :)

I've taken out $1000, some of which will be used to play in Louisiana in October. That leaves me with just $750 to continue playing micro with. Right now my game plan is to step up to $25 cash game, and $11 sng's. I think if I get down to 650 I'll step back down again and start playing the $5 45 mans to recover and bounceback.

I started to play cash last night and was up early after flopping the wheel with 45s against a guy with AQ top pair A. But then I lost a good chunk with AK tptk against AA. :/ Maybe lost $30 when it was all said and done, but I'm not worried at all. Sooner or later I'm going to have to get used to larger swings at the larger stakes. But I won't be afraid to move down either. I think another good "rule" would be if I have 3 losing sessions in a row at these higher levels, then I'll move back down until I'm playing/running good again.

This is utilizing inflection points and first in vigorish. Bob was the perfect bb to do this on because A) my short stack would cost him half his chips B) he was a tight player. I could say I could do this to gunn because he's got a similar stack size, but he was more of a calling station and a much weaker player, this is exemplified in a bigger hand which is after this one.

You have to get lucky to win any tourney, and this was my key hand of the game. Not only was I lucky to catch the K but I was just lucky that I had live cards to begin with, although I was very upset to see he had better spades...

JJJRoc333 was my heads up opponent. I had soo many good hands and boards but I could never get him to bite. When I had him 3-1 everytime I limped he shoved all in. So my whole plan was to limp a big hand and trap him. While 44 wasn't exactly a big hand, it was one of the best ones I'd had to try and gamble with him. Thank GOD he had 33. LOL

Satellite fever

I have to say after getting into the 500K, I've got the itch even more to take another shot. Full Tilt's been running the FTOPS V series but the only one I really want to take a shot at is their main event $2 mil guarantee with over 300K for first place. Instead of a $200 buyin it's $500 so it's a little more difficult to get into.

This week I've tried a few times to win a seat into a point satellite using my points. I've played 2 300 PT 9 man SNG's (winner take all) and finished 4th in the first one, and then 2nd in the next shot. That last one was the hardest to stomach because I had the guy in heads up 11,000 to 1300 and he woke up with aces when I tried to knock him out with QT and fucking made quad aces by the river! He also pulled a runner runner flush to knock me out on the end where my top pair was good.

Then last night I try another route: 50 PT turbo 54 man sng, again winner take all. And ANOTHER SECOND!! WTF is going on here! This one didn't hurt so bad because I got extremely lucky in a few key places to get as far as I did. But the blinds were so high on the end that it really could've gone either way.

So now instead what I'm trying is to get some tokens in hopes of just getting in one shot instead of two. Because honestly I'm sure I could win a point seat into the 2500 PT tourney, but who's to say I'd get a seat there? Considering how well I've been playing the SNG's lately I think I might be better off trying to get a $75 token and then winning a 9 man SNG using that as opposed to doing well in a MTT. Right now I've got two $26 tokens. I'm going to try to earn at least one more before I start taking shots at the $75 ones.

I do have to admit I'd really LOVE to satellite into one of the big weekly tourneys soon. That 500K guarantee on Sunday's is so alluring to me, just cashing in that tourney would be a good payday. Final table??? Fuggidddabbouuutttittt. That's going to be a goal of mine for the year: satellite into the big Sunday guarantee. I won't say cashing because that's going to be hard and I doubt I'll be able to make into the tourney more than 2 or 3 times. But just to get in, either through a cheap supersatellite or using a $26 token or something would be an accomplisment to me. Everything after would be up to the poker gods.
